Austin City Championship: Phillip Schmitz opens with 7-under (65), leads by 1; Briana LeMaire & Estelle Beck tied at -3

Phillip Schmitz made 8 birdies and only one bogey to post an opening round 65 (-7) in men’s division of the Austin City Championship at Morris Williams G.C. Trevor Mierl is only one behind after shooting 66 (-6), followed by Dylan Everett and Jack Cersosimo at 69 (-3). 5 players are tied at -2, followed by 7 players tied at -1. Tee Times and Leaderboard are available for round 2, today at Jimmy Clay golf course.

In the women’s division, Briana LeMaire and Estelle Beck both opened with 69 (-3), with Jennifer Orellana currently in third place, after a round of 78 (+6). Leaderboard

2023 Austin City Golf Championship registration is open

Registration for the 2023 Austin City Golf Championship is open, and can be found here: https://golfatx.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/golfaustin23/event/golfaustin237/index.htm

GOLFATX will be hosting the Men’s and Women’s City Championships simultaneously August 4th-6th. Both divisions will be a stroke play aggregate gross format over 54 holes. The men will be cut to the low 60 and ties after the 2nd round. The women will be cut to the low 20 and ties after the 2nd round. We are excited about identifying the top Men and Women golfers in the Austin Area.

Morris Williams, Jimmy Clay and Roy Kizer will be the tournament rotation in that order. Any division with the exception of the junior division that does not have at least 12 competitors will be cancelled and those players will be fully refunded.

Congratulations to Nick Schafer on winning the Firecracker Open.

Nick shot a final round 64 to get to -15 under par and a one shot win over Jonathan Alden. Joe Ramos and Harrison Jaeger finished T3 at -12 under par. Austin Cotton, Hudson Ross, Matthew Henson and Jack Cersosimo tied for 5th at -9 under par.

In the flights Jason Long beat Steve Trafton by 1 to win the First Flight. Keith Phelps shot a final round 75 to win the Second Flight by 3 over Alan Bell and Steve Dimiceli won the Third Flight.
