Austin Amateur Golf

The 2017 Texas Mid-Amateur was one by Colby Harwell, of San Antonio, who fired a 9-under par tournament total of 207.  Only three players finished the tournament under par, one of which was 3rd place finisher Tim Hamm, of Austin.  One shot back at even par was Stephen Paterson to claim a T-4 finish and the winner of the Mid-Master (over 40) division.  Jonathan Alden finished in T-8th place with a tournament total of 2-over par 218, helping represent the Austin area with 3 top ten finishes.

Three other Austin-area golfers made the cut: Josh Luongo (3-over, T-14), Greg Smith (4-over, 22nd), Joe Sanders (7-over, T-33) and Matt Wernecke (7-over, T-33).

The final 2017 rankings have been tallied and are now available.  With his T-3 finish this weekend, Tim Hamm moves into the top 8 on the Mid-Am list, and Greg Smith moves into the top 3 on the Senior list with his 22nd place finish.  Both players are automatic selections to the 2017 Rudy’s Cup team.  Captain Grady Bruce will have 3 captain’s picks to round out this year’s team, and will lead them against the San Antonio team, the weekend of October 21-22 at The Club at Comanche Trace, in Kerrville.  Good finishes by the Austin area golfers this past weekend should have them well prepared to defend their 2016 victory.
